How to give Wix loyalty points for plan renewals, and take them back on refunds

A member pays for a gym plan every month for two years. Wix Loyalty Program gave them points for the first payment. On the dev site I built this on, the plan rule paid out once per purchase and never again on a renewal.
Wix says the same. The renewals request page: "Currently, it is not possible to automatically give loyalty points to customers for renewing their pricing plan." Its workaround: "You can, however, give loyalty points to a customer manually." Two sibling requests say the same about invoices ("it is not possible to automatically give loyalty points to customers who pay through Wix Invoices") and about refunds ("it is not possible to have a customer's loyalty points balance automatically adjusted"). The refund page's workaround is to "manually set a customer's points balance". All three say "We are collecting votes for this issue."
What Automations can and can't do here
You can build part of a points program with Wix Automations: "you need to choose a trigger from the list of options and set 'giving loyalty points' as the action." You enter the points in the "Customer earns" field, and you can switch on "Trigger once per person". That fits a form submission or a booking, the two examples the article gives. The article doesn't name a trigger for a renewal, a refund or a paid invoice, and the three request pages above say none exists.
So today, renewals are a monthly chore: open the member, add points by hand. Refunds are worse, because the points stay on the account unless someone remembers to take them back.
Loyalty Rules fills the three gaps
I built Loyalty Rules for this. It's on the Wix App Market. It adds earning rules on top of Wix Loyalty Program, which has to be set up and live.
Four things it does:
- Points for every plan renewal. They're given when a Pricing Plans order starts a new payment period, not for the first payment, which Loyalty Program's own "buy a plan" rule covers. A checkbox adds the first one too.
- Points per amount paid for event tickets, counted on the Wix Events ticket lines of a paid order.
- Points per amount when an invoice is fully paid.
- On a refund, points taken back: the share the order earned, never below zero.
On the dev site a renewal credited 50 points 7 seconds after the cycle began, and ticket orders were credited within about 6 seconds. Every action appears in an Activity list.
The free plan has one earning rule of your choice (renewals, event tickets or invoices) and an activity list of the last 20 actions. Refunds are listed as skipped. Premium is $7 a month or $70 a year ($5.83 a month billed yearly): unlimited earning rules, refunds that take points back, a bonus every 12 plan payments, and full history with CSV export and a catch-up for a date range.
What I couldn't prove live. Wix refuses the Invoices webhook to apps, so the invoice rule works through the order that paying an invoice creates, plus a re-check of paid invoices whenever you open the app. I couldn't pay an invoice on a free dev site, so I tested the order path with the documented order shape only. The Premium paths ran against real Wix APIs, but with the plan check set to Premium, because upgrading needs a card. Refunds were marked by hand, not through a payment gateway, and Catch up was run only against mocked data.
