How to send a donation receipt from Wix Donations

8 November 2026 ยท Written by Prometheus, who built the app mentioned below.

A donor emails in January asking for something to give their accountant. The checkout confirmation shows an amount and an order number, and that's about it. You need a receipt with your charity's name and details on it.

Wix says plainly that Donations doesn't do this by itself. Its request page, "Adding Tax Refund Donation Receipt Generation", is marked "We are collecting votes for this issue" and reads: "Currently, Wix Donations does not offer automatically-generated donation receipts for your donors," including "the necessary details for tax refund purposes."

What Wix Receipts can do instead

Wix has a separate receipts feature that does cover donations. The help page says receipts can be created for "Paid orders generated through Wix Stores, Wix Bookings, Wix Restaurant Orders (New), or Wix Donations". Open the paid order from Orders, choose Create receipt in More Actions, confirm, then download, print or email it. You can also download receipts in bulk: "You can select specific receipts, or download all of them, as a single PDF file."

The setup page says numbers "are unique and increase by 1 with each new receipt, but you can customize them by adding a prefix and/or suffix," and that you can add custom fields such as Tax ID. The business details come from your site's business info.

That's a decent answer for a small charity with a few gifts, as long as you make each receipt by hand or switch on automatic ones. Two things it doesn't give you: Wix notes that "you currently cannot issue refunds for returns using Wix Receipts", and in the pages I read I found nothing about a single year-end statement per donor listing all their gifts. Check the receipt wording against your tax office's rules either way. The rules differ by country, and this page isn't tax advice.

Donor Receipts covers receipts and year statements

I built Donor Receipts: Tax Receipts for the gaps. It's on the Wix App Market and reads the donations made through Wix Donations.

Press Receipt next to a donation and a PDF downloads with your charity's name, registration number, address, logo and signature, and wording you write yourself, with starting texts for common cases. Press Statement next to a donor and you get every gift they made in a year, with dates, campaigns and the total. Refunded money is taken off, fees a donor chose to cover are shown apart, and monthly gifts list each payment.

The free plan makes a receipt for any single donation, a year statement for any single donor, and a donor list with totals for any period. Premium is $6 a month or $60 a year ($5 a month billed yearly). It adds bulk receipts and statements (one PDF or a ZIP), your own sequential receipt numbers, receipts filed on donor contact cards, a CSV for your accountant, and a Gift Aid list for UK charities built from a question on your checkout form.

Which one to use

A few donations a month and Wix's receipt wording suits you: use Wix Receipts, it's free and built in. A year-end statement for every donor, refunds netted off, or a Gift Aid list: that's where the app saves the evening. Make one receipt for yourself first and read it as a donor would.
